A Christian, a Jew and a Catholic Walk into a Bar

So a good friend of mine wrote this, today:

Eventually we will realize that we can not legislate the evil out of this world. You can not modernize those who want to see the world burn and those who have been brainwashed into murderous religions. Is it not enough that we already classify ourselves by color, wealth and race. Yet we discriminate and DIVIDE even more with religion. We go to separate churches and venues because our religions are different. 4 people with 4 different religions walk into a bar…..how about 4 human beings walked into a bar? When that happens the world will be a better place. We are not ready.

Anybody that’s thinking clearly knows this is not true, it’s an absolute distortion of facts, and must be challenged.  So I responded:

Not entirely true. You cannot paint all theologies with this broad brush, and expect to come out with something true. Even the despicable Bill Maher knows better, than that, and speaks out against it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irLy7cJz_mY). It is simplistic, if not stupid, for atheists to think they can be dismissive of those of theological faith, just as those with theological faiths should not be dismissive of those that literally believe they and the Universe magically came from nothing. In the same vein, you cannot directly compare systems of faith like Judaism and Christendom or Catholocism to Islam, because they cannot BE directly compared. Not all theologies (Christendom, Catholicism, Judaism) tell their adherents to separate themselves from others, and look down upon them with murderous intent. Read the The Bible, read the Torah, and tell me where you see any such thing. Romans 12:18, attributed to the Apostle Paul states very clearly: “If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.” The Apostle James said in 4:1-2: “What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask.” The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthians (1 Corinthians 13:7): “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

The Koran, the antithesis of what’s in The Holy Bible and Torah states in the 111th verse of chapter 9 (sūrat l-tawbah): “Lo! Allah hath bought from the believers their lives and their wealth because the Garden will be theirs: they shall fight in the way of Allah and shall slay and be slain. It is a promise which is binding on Him in the Torah and the Gospel and the Qur’an. Who fulfilleth His covenant better than Allah? Rejoice then in your bargain that ye have made, for that is the supreme triumph.” Translation: [mass] murder is the path to salvation. The 5th verse of chapter 9 states: “Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them, and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”

It is disingenuous, myopic and dangerous in the extreme to in any way equate Islam to the other faiths I mentioned. I’m no fan of the Pope or Catholicism, and I’m not Jewish, but when was the last time you’d heard of a Protestant Christian carrying out acts of terrorism against the other faiths, because they’re trying to appease their deity? How about Jews executing suicide bombings, because they want to eradicate the Catholic infidel?

It doesn’t happen.

I have friends that are Catholics, I have friends that are Jews. Why? Because our Abrahamic faiths do not instill a desire to murder one another? Why? Because it’s a direct violation of the teachings of those faiths. Islam doesn’t have any such teachings (and neither do the faiths of atheists),and I’m pretty sure atheists have a much higher murder and violence rate, than dedicated Christians, Catholics and Jews. If you know different, challenge me with facts and figures. The bottom line is that you’re creating a controversy that does not exist. You’re pointing fingers at everyone, when only one party is to blame, and that party is the Islamic State, a Muslim terrorist super-organization and para-state, dedicated to Islamic fundamentalism, which, as I have shown, teaches to murder anyone that doesn’t believe as they do. If you want the world to be a better place, Islamic terror is going to have to be controlled. Jews, Christians and Catholics walk into bars with each other, all the time, and do not see each other as some different, alien or enemy species to be converted or killed. When those people get together, there IS peace. The peace goes away when people that look down upon – or hate – them for HAVING their faiths walk into the bar, or when people that cannot stand the fact that they have faiths different from their own set foot into that bar, and find out about them.

Blaming Christianity, Catholicism or Judaism for the actions of Islamic terrorists makes as much sense as blaming the French shooting victims for the attack in Paris.  Looking at this with anything but clear eyes is nothing but an invitation to further disaster, when you don’t know who the real enemy is.

If you’re not an atheist, then you would know that Christendom, Catholicism and Judaism do not teach separation. Only Islam does, and only Islam PRACTICES that. Unless you can find something that shows they’re teaching something differently, I have a hard time believing that, considering I’ve been in Catholic churches, hung around with Catholic families, and spent a lot of time with Jews, and seen no evidence of this. When I have spent time with adherents of Islam, however, it’s been a completely different story. My faith – Protestant, Evangelical Christendom – teaches no such thing as separation or segregation. Listening to Catholic teachings: same thing. And the Jews in no way promote themselves as wanting to remain separate from the rest of the world and G-d’s People. Only Islam contains teachings like Surah 5:51, which states very clearly:

“O ye who believe! take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends: They are but friends to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.”

That runs kind’ve counter to the words I’d already given you from the Apostle Paul, stating that you should get along as well as is possible, as much as it is in you, with everyone around you. If you’re in a church that teaches anything other than Jesus’ two, simple commandments from Matthew 22:37:
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
RUN, don’t walk, to the nearest exit, and take your family with you.
